Pierogi Casserole Ingredients
- 2 lbs frozen cheddar cheese pierogies
- 1 (15 ounce) jar alfredo sauce
- 8 pieces crispy cooked bacon, chopped
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch casserole dish or an equivalent-sized baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Layer the Pierogies and Toppings: Arrange half of the frozen cheddar cheese pierogies evenly in the bottom of the prepared casserole dish. Spoon half of the alfredo sauce evenly over the pierogies. Sprinkle half of the chopped crispy bacon, half of the finely chopped green onions, and half of the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses over the sauce.
- Add Remaining Layers: Layer the remaining frozen pierogies over the first layer. Pour the remaining alfredo sauce on top, then sprinkle with the rest of the bacon, green onions, and shredded cheeses. Season the entire casserole with kosher salt and black pepper to taste.
- Bake Covered: Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil to ensure the pierogies cook through and the flavors meld. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
- Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted, bubbly, and golden, and the casserole is heated through.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven and sprinkle the casserole with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and fresh flavor. Serve warm for a satisfying meal.
Notes
- Use frozen pierogies straight from the freezer; no need to thaw before assembling.
- For a vegetarian version, omit bacon or replace with a plant-based bacon alternative.
- To add extra vegetables, consider mixing in sautéed mushrooms or spinach before layering.
- Make sure the casserole dish is large enough to accommodate the layers evenly for best cooking results.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
