4.9 from 136 reviews

Hissy Fit Dip is a creamy, cheesy, and slightly spicy baked dip featuring browned sausage, cream cheese, sour cream, sharp cheddar, mozzarella, and diced tomatoes with green chilies. It’s a perfect warm appetizer served with chips, crackers, or toasted baguette slices.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage

  • 1 lb ground sausage (mild or spicy, your choice)

Dairy & Cheese

  • 1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Vegetables & Canned Goods

  • 1 10 oz can Rotel (diced tomatoes with green chilies), drained

Flavorings & Spices

  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and crumbly. Drain any excess grease carefully to keep the dip from being too greasy.
  2. Mix the base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  3. Add in the flavor: Stir in the cooked sausage, drained Rotel tomatoes, shredded sharp cheddar, and mozzarella cheese. Mix thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly.
  4. Bake the dip: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the dip mixture evenly into a greased 9×9 or 8×8-inch baking dish. Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the dip is hot, bubbly, and slightly golden on top.
  5. Serve hot: Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or green onions for a pop of color and freshness. Serve warm with tortilla chips, crackers, or toasted baguette slices for dipping.

Notes

  • Drain the sausage well to avoid excess grease in the dip.
  • Cayenne pepper is optional and can be adjusted based on your preferred spice level.
  • You can substitute mild or spicy sausage depending on taste.
  • Serve immediately for best taste and texture.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven or microwave.
