Cheesy Taco Breadsticks combine the classic flavors of seasoned ground beef and melted cheeses wrapped in crispy, golden pizza dough twists. Perfect as a fun appetizer or snack, these breadsticks are easy to make and served with salsa and sour cream for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning

Dough and Cheese

  • 1 can refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Finishing Touches

  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salsa and sour cream for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the breadsticks.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef thoroughly. Drain excess fat and stir in the taco seasoning as per the packet directions. Set aside once cooked and seasoned.
  3. Prepare Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle to provide ample space for the filling.
  4. Add Filling: Spread the cooked, seasoned ground beef evenly over one half of the dough. Then sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses on top of the meat layer.
  5. Fold Dough: Fold the other half of the dough over the meat and cheese filling, pressing the edges firmly to seal in the contents.
  6. Cut and Twist: Cut the stuffed dough into 1-inch wide strips. Twist each strip then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them out to allow even baking.
  7. Brush and Season: Brush the tops of the twisted breadsticks with melted butter and sprinkle garlic powder evenly over them for extra flavor and browning.
  8. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until the breadsticks are golden brown and crispy.
  9. Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. Serve warm with salsa and sour cream for dipping to enjoy the full flavor.

Notes

  • Ensure to drain excess fat from the cooked ground beef to prevent soggy dough.
  • Use a light hand with the garlic powder to avoid overpowering flavors.
  • You can substitute shredded cheeses based on preference but a blend of cheddar and mozzarella works best for melt quality and flavor.
  • The twisting of strips helps create a crispy texture and appealing presentation.
  • Leftover breadsticks can be reheated in the oven to restore crispiness.
