Candy Sushi Recipe

4.7 from 111 reviews

Candy Sushi is a fun and creative no-bake treat that mimics traditional sushi using sweet, colorful candies and Rice Krispie treats. Perfect for kids and parties, this recipe includes three playful sushi styles: Candy Nigiri with gummy fish and tootsie roll belts, Candy Sushi Maki rolled with Fruit Roll Ups and licorice, and easy kid-decorated sushi bites. These sweet, moldable treats are quick to assemble and chilled before serving.

Ingredients

Candy Nigiri Sushi

  • Rice Krispie Treats (store-bought or homemade), enough to form golf ball-sized portions
  • Swedish Fish or similar gummy fish candy, 1 per nigiri
  • Tootsie Rolls, 1 per nigiri

Candy Sushi Maki

  • Rice Krispie Treats (store-bought or homemade), enough to roll out into a sheet
  • Fruit Roll Ups, 1 sheet
  • Licorice ropes (Twizzlers or similar), 2-3 pieces per roll

Easy Kid-Made Sushi

  • Rice Krispie Treats (store-bought or homemade)
  • Colorful sprinkles or mini candies, for decorating

Instructions

  1. Form Candy Nigiri Sushi: Shape Rice Krispie treats into golf ball-sized portions then mold into an oblong sushi shape using your hands. Place a Swedish Fish gummy candy on top of each shaped treat. Stretch and flatten one Tootsie Roll and wrap it around the gummy fish and the rice treat like a belt to secure it.
  2. Make Candy Sushi Maki Rolls: Remove plastic from Fruit Roll Ups and lay flat on a clean surface. Roll out Rice Krispie treats on top to form a sheet less than 1/2 inch thick. At one edge, place 2-3 pieces of licorice rope or Twizzlers. Gently and carefully roll up the marshmallow treat sheet around the licorice, with the Fruit Roll Up on the outside. Compress gently to keep it together. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to set before slicing into pieces.
  3. Create Easy Kid-Made Sushi Bites: Kids can shape Rice Krispie treats into small circles or squares using cookie cutters or freehand shaping. Flat-top shapes are preferred. Decorate each piece with colorful sprinkles or mini candies for a fun and personalized finish.

Notes

  • Use store-bought Rice Krispie treats for convenience, or homemade for a fresher taste.
  • When shaping the treats, slightly moistened hands can prevent sticking.
  • Chill the Candy Sushi Maki rolls well before slicing to ensure clean cuts.
  • Any gummy candy can substitute for Swedish Fish in the Candy Nigiri.
  • For allergy concerns, verify licorice and candy ingredients.
  • Kids should be supervised when using candy that requires stretching or rolling to avoid choking hazards.
