Ingredients

Scale

Sandwich Ingredients

  • 2 slices thick cut bread
  • 2 Tbsp. garlic and herb spreadable cheese (Boursin), softened
  • 2 Tbsp. fig preserves
  • 3 oz. Brie cheese, sliced into 4 pieces
  • 6 thin slices Granny Smith apple
  • 1 Tbsp. butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread Slices: Spread 2 tablespoons of garlic and herb spreadable cheese on one side of one bread slice, and spread 2 tablespoons of fig preserves on one side of the other bread slice.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich: Arrange two slices of Brie cheese over the garlic herb spread, then lay the thin Granny Smith apple slices in a single, non-overlapping layer on top of the Brie. Add the remaining two Brie slices on top of the apples. Place the bread slice with fig preserves face down onto the Brie and apple layer to form the sandwich.
  3. Butter the Outer Bread Surfaces: Distribute the softened butter evenly on the outside surfaces of both bread slices, ensuring full coverage for even browning.
  4. Cook the First Side: Heat a medium skillet over medium heat and place the sandwich inside. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown.
  5. Cook the Second Side on Low: Flip the sandwich and reduce heat to low. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, allowing the bottom to brown without burning.
  6. Finish Melting the Brie: Maintain low heat and continue cooking the sandwich, flipping every 1 to 2 minutes to prevent burning and ensure the Brie melts thoroughly inside. This should take an additional 5 to 6 minutes.
  7. Serve: Remove the sandwich from the skillet, transfer to a cutting board, cut in half, and serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Use thick cut bread for a sturdier sandwich and better texture.
  • Softening the butter and spreadable cheese helps with easy spreading.
  • Flip frequently at the end to melt the Brie without burning the bread.
  • Adjust heat as needed to avoid over-browning or undercooking.
  • For a sweeter variation, try substituting fig preserves with a berry jam.
  • Serve warm for optimal flavor and cheese melted consistency.
